Tour Information

Our goal is to help you feel comfortable in the tasting room, learn a little about Oregon and wines in general, have a great time, and taste some nice wines.  We want to provide you with an exceptional experience here in wine country.  We specialize in small group tours.  I want to share our passion of wine with you and to provide a personal experience in wine country that you can't get on a big Nappa Valley style bus tour.  We prefer to take out couples to groups of 10.  That we can provide a better quality tour for you.  We can still do large groups too (12-40 people) for the big groups that want to experience the real Oregon wine country.

Hours: Tours are generally from 10am - 6pm unless you request otherwise.  We operate seven days a week - Year round.

Most tasting rooms are open at least from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Some open earlier and some stay open later or special hours by appointment.  Some wineries are open only by appointment.

All wineries that are generally open to the public are open at least from Wednesday through Sunday.  Many are still open seven days a week.

We take care of all of the arrangements so you don't have to worry about it.  Your tour will be completely arranged by our staff.

Lunch can be arranged at a winery (picnic style) during the day or we can stop at one of many excellent restaurants.  When booking your tour, let us know if you would like more information on lunch or dinner options. Check out our Specials Page for specific information about Wine Makers Dinners and other wine/food related events.

If you are new to wine tasting, we will be happy to spend some time with you to help you to learn the "tasting room etiquette". Ultimately, I want to make sure that you feel comfortable and not intimidated in any tasting rooms.  We have many years of experience in the wine industry.  We will try to answer any questions you have about wine, wine related questions and the area.

The area we serve is the Northern Willamette Valley from Portland to Salem and the Columbia Gorge.  We do a tour to Walla Walla during late summer/early fall and on special request.

This is our 12 passenger van.  Dark tinted windows, doors on both sides and fully air conditioned.  We love to listen to music, stop for pictures and tell jokes so please relax and enjoy the day.  Allow us to do whatever we can to make your experience one that you will remember fondly for years and years to come.

Sorry, we don't have a limo.  They are too impersonal for me.  I enjoy talking to my guests!  You're why I do this.  To separate myself from the guests and just do the chauffeur thing all day is not what we are about.  We are about having a great time, making sure you have a time you will remember for a lifetime and taste some great wines.

I hope you can respect that.

* (Pick up area is the general Portland Metro South of the Columbia River and west of I-205.  Washington County and wine country are included in the pick up area.  Outside of the pick up area, there will be a fuel charge added of $20+ depending on location of pick up)

VIP Tour Package

Private VIP Tours:  $750.00+

The van and driver are yours for a private and exclusive look into the best of Oregon's wines.  You can have 1 to 8 people total on the tour.  You will get into some of the harder to visit wineries.  Most of them are not open to the public.  You will get VIP treatment all day long.  You won't have to fight lines or crowds at the tasting rooms and you will see what's going on in the vineyard and wineries.  You are going to taste and experience world class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris to name only a few.  You will meet some wine makers and owners and have private tastings with them to discuss the wines.

Your day will include artisan cheeses paired with your wines along with gourmet chocolate truffles.  This tour is for those seeking the best Oregon Pinot Noir.  Those that are stocking their cellars with the best wines.  We have a sommelier on staff to guide you through the day of wines and food pairings and to answer all of your questions.  Anything we can possibly do to make this day better for you and your group will be done - just ask!

Many options are available for this tour including wine makers lunch or dinner, private wine education with wine and food pairings class, barrel tasting, and more.

Tour Options:

Romance Package:  $650.00 / couple.

It's just the two of you.  Your private tour includes tasting fees, and a gift basket with chocolates, candles and more.

We will create a romantic day for the two of you with scenic wineries and great wines.  Allow us to pamper you during the day and help you to enjoy the company of that special someone.  Great for your anniversary, birthday or marriage proposal.  If that's the case, let me know if I can help.  We want to do whatever we can to create the best, romantic wine tasting experience possible.

Self Guided Wine Tours:  $35

I realize that sometimes it's just easier to drive yourself but you just don't know where to go.  This is the solution for you.  Allow Oregon Wine Tours to customize an itinerary just for you.  Tell us what you would like to experience and allow us to create a custom, self guided wine tour for you.

You will receive a written itinerary for your day which includes information on the wineries we have suggested for you, driving directions, contact information and hours of the wineries along with suggested dining establishments.

We will email you all the information you need to enjoy a great day on your own in wine country.  Please have a designated driver and be safe.  We want this to be a fun day for all.

Winery Tour:  If you would like to add a behind the scenes tour at a local winery - Please let us know.  Many wineries offer tours of the winery along with special tastings.  Fees will range around $10-$40/person (payable to the winery).  Advance notice is required for the tours/tastings.  LEt us know what you are looking for and I'll make all of the necessary arrangements.

Alternate Stops:  If you would like to make a stop at the Evergreen Aviation Museum, an antique mall or a farmers market, just let me know.  We are happy to provide you with stops to enhance your overall experience.  Additional stops could mean fewer wineries, but I am happy to take you to locations of interest to you and your group.

Columbia Gorge Wine Tours - An additional fee could apply depending on pick up location and number of guests.

The Willamette Valley is where you get world class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.  But we don't have much of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Merlot, Zinfandel and Syrah.  It's just too cool in the Willamette Valley to grow those varietals.  The Columbia Gorge on the other hand offers these wines and spectacular views.  Fruit stands are abundant as well as excellent restaurants and other scenic vistas.  We will visit wineries in Hood River which is a beautiful one hour drive from Portland (vs. a 45 minute drive to wine country from downtown).  The beautiful Columbia River, Mt. Hood, Mt Adams and fruit trees surround the wineries and vineyards.  The staff at the wineries are very friendly and the lines are...  not there!  If you are looking for a little slower pace surrounded in the beauty of the Columbia Gorge and the big red (and white) wines then this is an excellent alternative for you.

Important Stuff - Tasting Fees, Cancellation Policy, Cleaning Fees, etc...

All tours require a VISA or MC card to reserve.  Please read the cancellation policy below.  No charges are made on your card until the date of the tour, (except with gift certificates).  If you would prefer to pay cash or check, just let me know.

*Tasting fees are not included in our tours.  However, I try hard to have wineries waive their tasting fees.  Many of the wineries we go to, will waive their fees for our groups and most will always waive their fees with any wine purchase.  If you are concerned about the tasting fees, and I certainly don't blame you, you can also share a tasting.  I will ask what you are willing to pay in tasting fees.  I will respect that and keep you in that range.  I know this is an additional expense but I've had to do this in order to provide better tours.  I'm happy to explain this if you want.

Lunch is also not included in the tour price.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have about our tours, pricing, the wineries we visit or any questions you have regarding a wine tour with us.  We are more than happy to assist you in making your wine tour the best possible experience possible.

** Larger groups can be arranged.  Please call for more details.  We are fully able to provide tours from 2 to 20.

Some restrictions do apply.

Cleaning fee:  Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I've had to post this warning...  If you leave an above normal mess in the vehicles, you may be charged a cleaning  fee.  Fee will depend on the mess.  Normal usage is expected and accidents happen, but carelessness and rudeness will be charged an appropriate cleaning fee to bring the vehicle back to pre-tour condition.

Food fights, spilled soda and coffee or sick people will be charged 20% over my cost to clean vehicles (up to the replacement of carpet or upholstery) plus lost revenue due to cleaning.  I'm very reasonable, and realistic in my expectations, but I have to insist that the vehicles are not abused.

Cancellation Policy:

I have a very liberal cancellation policy and a simple one.  Please remember that this is my business and livelihood.

I require a valid credit card to make a tour reservation.  No charge is made on the card at that time.  If you cancel your tour within 72 hours of the tour date, your credit card will be charged for 50% of your total tour cost.  If you cancel within 24 hours,  you are liable for 100% of the tour cost.

Cancellation prior to 72 hours of tour, refund is 100%.

Cancellation without notice -or- on day of tour, will be charged 100% of the tour amount.
